The Rev. Dr. Melvin Grimes, pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church, will be honored at a service at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at the church, 2601 15th St., Moline. The congregation is celebrating his 23rd anniversary as pastor.

Rev. Grimes graduated from Rock Island High School in 1970 and Kalamazoo College in 1975. He received a master of divinity in 2002 and doctorate of ministry in 2003 from Grace Valley Theological Seminary. He is a member of the Moline Ministerial Association, the Quad-Cities Baptist Pastor Conference and the Christian Care Rescue Mission and Domestic Violence Shelter Board.

His community involvement includes the board of directors of Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging, Churches United of the Quad-Cities, Youthbuild Quad-Cities, African American Advisory Committee, Rock Island Rotary and the Moline Civil Rights Commission.
