An Iowa City teen has been charged in connection with the October shooting death of a Cordova, Ill., man.
Charles William Curtis Thompson, 17, is facing one count of first-degree murder in the death of 64-year-old John E. Versypt.
Iowa City police found Versypt’s body in the hallway of an apartment complex he owned at 1958 Broadway St. Versypt was shot in the head and a gun was found at the scene.
Several witnesses identified Thompson as being involved in the homicide, Iowa City police said, adding that Thompson was seen wearing clothing consistent with the description of one of the people fleeing the area.
Police found gunshot residue on Thompson’s clothes and witnesses reported seeing Thompson with a gun on two occasions, police said.
Iowa City police think Thompson planned to rob Versypt.
Thompson made his initial appearance Thursday in Johnson County District Court.
The case remains under investigation.
