Don’t be surprised to hear tornado sirens go off today.

Emergency management agencies in Iowa and the National Weather Service will conduct a statewide tornado drill between 10 and 10:30 a.m. today. It will begin with a test watch at 10 a.m., followed by a test warning at 10:15 a.m.

Residents, schools and businesses are encouraged to practice seeking safe shelter as if this were a real event. In case of severe weather today, the test will be postponed until Thursday.

A similar exercise already has been held in Illinois.
