A snowplow truck was destroyed in an early morning fire Saturday, according to the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department. 

The incident happened about 5:12 a.m. at Freeport Road and Genesee Road in rural Sterling, Ill. When deputies arrived they discovered a 1987 International Snow Plow for Jordan Township had caught fire in the engine compartment. It then became fully engulfed in flames.

The driver, Dean M. Book, 57, of Sterling, was uninjured. The Sterling Fire Department assisted at the scene.

The snowplow truck was a total loss and was towed from the scene.
