Members of the Quad-City Ukulele Club were busy Saturday morning not only playing their instruments, but singing songs from several genres.
Leader Phil Vernon of Davenport said this was the fifth straight year they have played along the Bix 7 route. They gather on Kirkwood Boulevard near Iowa Street in the middle of the street, on the grassy portion of the boulevard.
“The group started playing the Bix the first year we were around,” he said. “Today, there are a dozen or so of us here.
“There is a mob of people coming at us. This is one of the biggest Quad-City events where you see so many people coming by you. We hope to spread the joy that we get playing music to those who are listening. We play a lot of different things. We want to show the ukulele is capable of a lot of music, from the Beatles to Chuck Berry to Elvis.”
