United Township High School students and staff have raised more than $1,600 to purchase toys for the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. From 4:30-5:30 p.m. today at the Moline Farm and Fleet, students and chaperones will purchase toys and deliver them to the Toys for Tots distribution center in the old Horst Zimmerman, 1740 5th Ave., Rock Island. They then will work at the distribution center, helping the Marines process and sort toys along with filling orders for more than 200 Quad-City families.

UTHS is also collecting new or like-new winter clothing for The Oasis, 1925 13th St., East Moline. The Oasis collects furniture, clothing and household goods and offers it to needy families free of charge along with a free dinner on Thursday nights. The organization is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
