Volunteers are needed to help at the annual Merit Badge Day hosted by Genesis Health System from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Genesis Heart Institute, 1236 E. Rusholme St., Davenport.

Volunteers with skills in first aid as well as mapping and GPS are needed. To volunteer, call registered nurse Tereze Jeffrey at 563-421-6535 or Dr. Benjamin VanRaalte, the organizer of the event, at 563-322-8877.

Scouts and Scout troops can register for the event by calling the Illowa Boy Scouts Council at (563) 388-7233 or by going online to illowabsa.org.

More than 100 Boy Scouts from throughout the Quad-City region are expected to have the opportunity to work on requirements for two merit badges with professional mentoring from doctors, nurses, paramedics, firefighters, and trained search-and-rescue teams.

The Scouts will be able to complete most of the work for badges in first aid and search and rescue during the one-day session.
