Plans are under way for the 53rd annual Geneseo International Thanksgiving Fellowship Program. International college students, some with families, from Chicago area colleges will visit the Geneseo, Ill., area over Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 21-25.

The program extends beyond Geneseo to Morrison, Prophetstown, Rockford and Sterling-Rock Falls, where charter buses transport the students from Chicago to the communities and back.

The foreign students meet Americans and learn about their homes and the unique American holiday and practice conversational English, while improving international understanding between hosts and guests.

Host families can be singles or couples, with or without children, with an extra bedroom and a willingness to share their holiday and to learn about another culture are needed. Applications should be completed by Nov. 7. The overall coordinators are Arlyn and Marcia Helke, who can be contacted at 309-944-4486 or gitfp@theinter.com.

A host information meeting for past and new hosts will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at First Presbyterian Church, 133 E. North St., Geneseo. Guests will arrive about 6 p.m. Nov. 21 at First Congregational Church, 319 S. State St., Geneseo to meet host families, leaving from same location at 2 p.m. Nov. 25.
