WAPELLO, Iowa — Wapello school officials want to restart discussions with the Morning Sun School District to determine whether the two districts can develop any long-term, multi-year partnerships.

The Wapello board agreed Wednesday to hold a special work session Jan. 23 to begin developing ideas  to present to the Morning Sun School Board.

The two districts conducted surveys of residents in each district last year to determine the level of interest in developing a closer association. Wapello residents favored a closer association while Morning Sun residents opposed it.

Wapello officials said the latest effort would need to include a specific proposal that could be considered and discussed by Morning Sun residents.

In other action, the board approved an application to the State Budget Review Committee seeking more than $87,600 in modified allowable growth. The additional allowable growth would not mean any new funding unless the school board later agreed to assess additional local property taxes.

In final action, the board received an update on efforts to establish a 7-12 Positive Behavior Interventions and Support program.
