The Rotary Club of East Moline/Silvis has selected Bea Brasel of East Moline as Rotarian of the Year for 2012 because of her “exemplary” commitment to the club.

Brasel, who joined Rotary in 2002, has served as the club’s Youth Exchange Officer, host to a foreign exchange student, served on a variety of committees and held various executive leadership positions, culminating in service as president for more than a year. She currently serves as the club’s web-site coordinator.

She is a graduate of United Township High School and Western Illinois University and is employed by WQPT and Western Illinois University. She also has served on the East Moline Park Board, volunteered for Viva Quad-Cities and National Friends of Public Broadcasting.

The headline "Ben Brasel" got my attention, but was it an intentional error to do so? I knwe BEA Brasel as an instructor at Black Hawk and WIU-QC. Based on what I knew about her then, she deserves this honor. How fortunate are those who know her and benefit from her passion, skills, and talents. Congratulations, BEA Brasel!
