Jonathan Calva, Rowena Aburto, Oliverio Covarrubias and Augusto Anzola of the Eastern Iowa Chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers have been given the 2013 Quad-City Engineering and Science Council Society of the Year Award.

In the past year, the Eastern Iowa Chapter has been reactivated after being dormant for three years, sponsored 3 Noche de Ciencias (Family Science/

STEM Nights) including one with 170 people in attendance, won a chapter membership growth award, awarded four STEM scholarships, started mentoring students in the West Liberty School District and provided volunteers for several QCESC events, including the Mousetrap, FIRST LEGO League and FIRST Tech Challenge competitions.
