United Township High School senior Emily Thomas of Hampton has been selected for Western Illinois University’s Centennial Honors Scholarship, which covers four years of tuition, fees and a residence hall room at the school.

High school students with an ACT score of 32 or higher and a grade point average of 3.5 or higher are eligible for the scholarship.

At Western, Thomas plans to major in chemistry and would like to join the school’s dance team or cheer squad. She also plans to pursue a doctorate after graduation.

She said she chose Western for the Centennial Honors program and because Western is “more personal and friendly.”

In high school, Thomas was a cheerleader for basketball and football and participated in dance pageants, the Letterman’s Club, National Honor Society, Interact Club, Jr. Rotarians, volleyball, the Panther Players, the speech team, French Club and the Link Crew.
