Rock Island Police Chief Jeffrey R. Ven Huizen has announced the promotion of Eddie H. Connelly to the rank of sergeant and will be assigned as an assistant watch commander in the patrol division. He was previously an officer assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division.

Connelly was hired by the Rock island Police Department on March 26, 2001 after receiving his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He served as a patrol officer in the Field Operations Division until 2007. He was then assigned to the Narcotics/Vice Unit, where he is currently assigned to the Metropolitan Enforcement Group.

He is a member of the Emergency Response Team and an instructor in less-than lethal weapons, chemical munitions and defensive tactics.

Connelly was chosen by the members of the Rock Island Police Department as the 2004 Knights of Columbus “Officer of the Year.”
