Dr. John T. Johnson, a long-time Davenport physician, will be inducted into the Parsons College Wall of Honor during ceremonies Saturday at the Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts in Fairfield, Iowa.

Johnson, a 1968 graduate of Parsons College, is a doctor of osteopathic medicine, graduating from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

He served as a medic in the U.S. Army. In 1974, he became the first African-American intern in Davenport, serving at what was Davenport Osteopathic Hospital.

Johnson was the third black physician to practice in the area, having his own family practice for almost 40 years.

He recently served Community Health Care on an on-call basis before retiring to his 12-acre farm near Blue Grass.
