Stuart W.J. Lind, 18, of Clinton, has become an Eagle Scout, the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America program. He has been in scouting since the age of seven and is currently a member of Troop 642, Clinton.

To earn his Eagle Scout rank, Lind, son of Gregg and Sarah Lind, conceived of, planned and carried out a community service project entitled “CHS Flagpole: The Power of Patriotism.” The project included improvements to the area around the scoreboard and flag pole at the Clinton High School stadium.

Lind, a senior at Clinton High School, and his team of volunteers oversaw the replacement of the school’s existing flagpole with two taller ones designated to fly the American and Iowa flags. His crew also brought in 16 tons of soil and 30 plant specimens to enhance the area around the poles and scoreboard.

He also earned the required 21 merit badges along with an additional 25. He has been inducted in the Boy Scout National Honor Society, the Order of the Arrow.
