A Lost Nation, Iowa, woman is dead after a car crash Thursday evening in Jackson County.

The crash occurred at 6:50 p.m. on Iowa 64 near 24th Street in Maquoketa.

A 1998 Pontiac Bonneville, driven by Jacqueline Ann Fischer, 83 of Lost Nation, was killed when the vehicle she was driving eastbound on Iowa 64 crossed the center line and struck head-on a 2004 Hyundai Sonata driven by Zachary John Schmidt, 30, of Maquoketa, according to a crash report from the Iowa State Patrol.

Schmidt was taken by Med Force to University Hospitals in Iowa City with unknown injuries.

A passenger in the Schmidt vehicle, Bridgit Jean Moran, 24, of Maquoketa, was transported to Maquoketa Hospital with unknown injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
