An 87-year-old woman was sent to the hospital after she rolled her vehicle into a ditch Friday in Bettendorf.

Mae Nidds of Bettendorf was taken to Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme Street, Davenport. Her condition is not known at this time.

Nidds drove a 2005 Toyota Corolla east in the 900 block of Spruce Hills Drive when at 11:03 a.m. she ran a red light, over-corrected and rolled the car into a ditch, Bettendorf’s public information officer Lauran Haldeman said.

Spruce Hills Drive was closed from 11:11 a.m. until 11:48 a.m.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, which is under investigation. Nidds was the only person in her car.

Could have happened to any of us. That said, look out for people 16-19 and 70-90 especially!

Hope she is ok.

People of all ages run red lights.

Most of the people I see driving recklessly are not the old, old. Rather it's much younger people thinking they own the road because they're in some ridiculously large vehicle like an suv or a large pick-up truck. Why they think they're entitled as they carelessly waste resources is beyond me.

Maybe she should have been required to take the driving test at the DMV.
