25 years of partying on Kirkwood
Carrie Wise moved to Kirkwood Boulevard between LeClaire and Iowa streets 30 years ago. The past 25, she has hosted a Bix party along the route in front of her house.
"We serve Boody Marys and a lot of food," she said. "It's fun. I have always enjoyed it."
She sets up tables, chairs and large umbrellas near the street and averages about 40 friends who attend.
Among them is Roy Franklin of Davenport.
"I am moving to New Mexico, so this will be my last Bix for awhile," he said.

A big part of her affair the past decade has been the music of Robert Dahms of Davenport. A member of the band, The Night People, since 1963, Dahms said he contacted Bix officials years ago to find a place he could set up his amps and play his electric guitar and sing.
"It has just been a tradition," he said. "I might do 100 songs. I started about 15 minutes before the race started. It seems to have slowed down a bit now."
