Recently, U.S. House Republicans proposed bills which would create the American Health Care Act (AHCA) and repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA). These actions will not create a better economy, community or society.

While parts of the ACA would continue, such as young adults staying on their parent’s health care plans until the age of 26, the replacement is inadequate. These inadequacies include defunding Planned Parenthood, offering tax credits, which are smaller than the subsidies offered by the ACA, and eliminating Medicaid expansion.

The AHCA will be detrimental to the health of U.S. citizens. It is estimated that the AHCA could leave 30 million people without health care coverage. I hope that U.S. Sens. Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst, as well as U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack will vote against these bills.
