Trump, in an apparent warning to his fired FBI director, said Friday, May 12, 2017, that James Comey had better hope there are no "tapes" of their conversations. Trump's tweet came the morning after he asserted Comey had told him three times that he wasn't under FBI investigation. (AP Photo/Evan Vucci, File)

Watching the negativity heaped upon President Trump, I'm reminded of a fable; Cinderella, orphaned, lives with an angry, vengeful stepmother and three evil stepsisters. The family resents Cinderella, conspiring to make life a living hell. The stepsisters torment her constantly.

Everything she does is wrong. They concoct lies, and belittle Cinderella using vile terms. The stepmother approves, encouraging more. Despite the criticism, Cinderella endures her self-esteem intact.

Eventually, Cinderella goes to a royal ball. Free to be herself, she mingles, meeting a prince. Seeing Cinderella for who she really is, he falls for her. After the dance, the prince searches for Cinderella.

The stepsisters say Cinderella's unfit, offering themselves as options. The stepmother tries dissuading the prince from choosing Cinderella, disparaging her character, minimizing her talents and accomplishments. The prince ignores all and marries Cinderella. They live happily ever....nope.

The story doesn't end there. The embittered step-family does everything possible to cause a divorce. Cinderella's efforts to please the prince are sabotaged. More lies and rumors are spread. Violence is advocated and used. This union must fail. Unfortunately for them, the prince sees through the deception. The marriage remains strong.

This letter is obviously an allegory. President Donald Trump is Cinderella. The royal ball is the campaign. The prince represents Trump's voters. Marriage equals the election. The stepsisters: Democrats, Hillary Clinton, left-wing judiciary, and never Trump Republicans. The abusive stepmother represents the mainstream press/entertainment cabal.
