Before reading a recent article in the Quad-City Times, I didn’t realize that killing deer with a bow and arrow was ordained by God and could cure psychological problems and drug addiction. I learned that bow hunting could also be the foundation of a marriage, keep us from being killed on the highway by deer, although there are no statistics to back this up, according to the article. Bow hunting also provides food for the homeless and keeps our pretty yards, well, pretty.

Were those articles written to appease the gun lobby and bow hunters? These stories should have been printed on the last page of the sports section, but I would argue that hunting with a rifle or bow and arrow is not a sport at all. Sport should be an equal match between rivals. Hunting is not an equal match for the animals.

The space and effort you that you put into these articles could have been better spent on more humane pursuits.
