U.S. Rep. Steve King's tweet about how "we can't restore our civilization with somebody else's babies" bothers me a lot.

He clearly wants more white babies. However, the numbers don't support his wishes. Using 2014 statistics, there were 11.6 white births per 1,000 of population in Iowa. Births among African Americans were 19.5 per 1,000; Asian births were 18.4 per 1,000 and Hispanic births were 20.3 per 1,000 of total population.

Clearly, the chances are we are going to be seeing more minority children and speaking for myself, I welcome the diversity this represents. Our culture will be enriched in every way Food, art, music and dance to name a few. Also, as an older Iowan, I see the need for younger people in our work force. My wish is that we be a welcoming community for all Iowa babies, regardless of where their genetics come from.
