Vehicle-deer collisions are at an epidemic high. Iowa ranks third highest in the nation. I've lost count of the cyclists that have been killed or severely injured with over $4 billion in motor vehicle claims to insurance companies nationwide.

This is the result of deer being purposely managed at the highest population possible to satisfy a minority that finds fun in killing and wounding, and causing misery to this species, and to satisfy state officials for the money from hunting licenses. They consider the loss of life and vehicle damage a good “trade-off.”

Our elected lawmakers aren’t going to fix the above problem. They cater to big money, big business, and powerful lobbyists. The want even more death and vehicle damage. Common sense and ethics get dumped.

The only way for the above problem to be fixed, would be for enough citizens, insurance companies and motorcycle organizations to get united and sue our state departments that manage wildlife, and force them to get avid hunters out of top management positions, and get neutral personnel in such management. It would be just as fair or unfair, to have animal rights activists in wildlife management, as to have it the way it is now.

I remember a time when anyone could drive any hour of the day or night without crashing into a deer, but hunters and state officials consider that to be an “incorrect time.”
