SPRINGFIELD — A state lawmaker who represents a large swath of western Illinois has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

State Rep. Rich Myers, R-Colchester, plans to stay in office and continue attending the legislative session in Springfield but said he may have to miss some work while undergoing treatment.

Myers, who took office in 1995, said he will learn in the coming weeks how the cancer will be treated.

“I view this as just another hurdle I must overcome,” said Myers, 62.

He said his office in Macomb will remain open.

The 94th House District stretches from Mercer County in the north to Mason County in the southeast.
