ANAMOSA, Iowa — The only residential care facility for mentally ill or developmentally disabled people in eastern Iowa’s Jones County is closing.

Staffers are helping to find new places for residents before Fairview Care Center in Anamosa closes Feb. 1.

William Bonnes is president and CEO of Community Care Inc., the DeWitt-based nonprofit that owns the center. Bonnes said Fairview is being closed because it’s been getting fewer referrals and because of declining state payments for residential services.

Community Care moved into the former Jones Regional Medical Center in October 2009 and converted the hospital to a long-term care facility for up to 36 residents.

Bonnes said about 10 of the center’s 21 residents already have found spots in neighborhood group homes, closely supervised apartments or other settings.
