DES MOINES — Iowa Department of Education officials announced Friday a series of educator forums to discuss the newly released Teacher Leadership and Compensation Task Force recommendations.

Those recommendations include increasing starting the minimum starting pay for teachers to $35,000, offering stipends for teachers who teach in high-poverty schools and/or hard-to-fill subjects and creating new career paths for teachers.

Department of Education Director Jason Glass estimates adopting the recommendations would cost the state $150 million.
