LeCLAIRE, Iowa — Peaked hats and wicked laughter will spill through downtown LeClaire on Saturday as the LeClaire Shopkeepers’ Marketing Alliance presents the fifth annual Witches Walk.
Cash prizes will be awarded in age categories for originality, creativity, craftsmanship and presentation.
Events include costume judging, music, pumpkin painting, face painting, refreshments and free bags of candy, pumpkin games and Witches Cackle Contest.
People can be involved by walking in the costume parade, handing out candy along the route or just watching, said Jodi Faeth, lead parade organizer.
LeClaire police and fire departments will assist groups in safely crossing the highway.
New this year, dogs and their owners are invited to participate in a costume contest. A dog parade will take place behind the children and family parades. Dogs must be on leash and comfortable around people and other dogs. They are invited to stop by River Pup at 11:30 a.m. for a free bag of dog goodies. Owners must sign a waiver before the judging on stage on the levee at noon. Pet categories are funniest costume, best overall costume, scariest costume, best group costume and most creative costume.
The parade will begin at
1 p.m. Saturday on the riverfront levee. Costume judging takes place at the pavilion during registration from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
