People, especially the so-called president and his supporters, need to stop being judgmental and condemning someone who chooses not to stand proudly during a rendition of the National Anthem.

You think they disrespect our flag and our military. It just may be that while sitting or going down on one knee, they are praying that there will come a time when there will be liberty and justice, not just for some, but for all.

There were black soldiers who fought in war, came back home and weren’t even allowed to vote. There’s a black member of Congress from North Carolina who said he still gets stopped by police for no other reason than the color of his skin. Some areas of our country are finding ways to segregate schools again.

Every time I am present standing for the National Anthem and look at our flag, I get tears in my eyes. It’s very emotional for me to remember lives lost and injustices that remain for too many people.
