I cannot tell you how upset I am that former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio was pardoned by President Trump. I lived in Arizona for 14 years, most of that time working for Indian Health Service.
I kept hearing about Joe Arpaio over and over again with regard to his aggressive and illegal profiling of minorities. He was certainly hated by Native Americans, Latinos, other minorities and plenty of people who disapproved of his behavior. Thank God he was finally voted out of office and convicted.
I heard about his crackdowns that separated immigrant families and his cruelty toward inmates by housing them in outdoor tents in triple digit heat and making them wear pink underwear. I have even heard that he prided himself on spending the least on food of any correctional institution in feeding the inmates.
I do not know what to say except that it is a sorry day for our country when our president encourages this cruel behavior. We should all keep standing up to hate.
