The Quad-City Times Nov. 3, Opinion Page included a political cartoon about Gen. John Kelly, who served 40 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. The cartoon stated that he supported slavery and treason. I was appalled; do you have no sense of decency? A 40-year veteran should be accorded respect.
Disagreements do not have to be conducted to the basest level possible. Is there no way, the newspaper can disagree agreeably? Shame on you for sinking to the lowest level to smear a 40-year veteran. Shame on you for sinking so low as to smear anyone. If you disagree, do so respectfully. Your cartoon was a bullying insult to all people with any sense of respect for civil debate.
Editor's note: The cartoon in question was syndicated from Chicago Tribune.
