I just finished reading "Starting With a Clean Slate" in a recent edition of Quad-City Times. Why is new development at Main Street Landing such a priority? We finally got rid of the casino's eyesore along with the Dock Restaurant and the Howard Johnson hotel. Look how nice it is without these.
Now we're in a big hurry to throw another development in the casino's place, but why? We've got plenty of restaurants and places to visit on the north side of River Drive and at the Freight House. Do we really want another Dock Restaurant built there to end up a dilapidated hulk needing a tear-down 20 years from now?
Honestly, I believe it's all about greed; developers see a prime spot ripe for the picking. So who benefits from this? Not me. Whatever is offered up to be done with the Main Street Landing area should be put to a majority vote by the citizens of Davenport. This way we'll know what the people really want and not just a select few that have a vested interest in it.
