Did you make a New Year’s resolution to live healthier this year? If the answer is "yes," then one of the first things you need to do is get your annual flu shot.
According to a national flu index compiled each week by Walgreens, the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City area recently ranked third in the nation for flu activity gains. The flu is knocking at our door, and it’s not too late for you and your family to get vaccinated.
Information is power when it comes to preventing the spread of influenza: this year’s strain is especially strong and rapidly sweeping across the country. As such, I spend time in the pharmacy each day educating community members about how the flu shot is their best protection against the flu, and public health officials continue to recommend flu shots for almost everyone over six months old.
It’s easier than you may think to stop the spread of illness locally and abroad. Roll up your sleeve for a flu shot, and feel good about being one of the dedicated Iowans that kept their resolution to be healthy this year.
