As a business owner and resident of Rock Island County, I was sad to read that City Administrator Dave Ross decided to take a new job in Florida. Having said that, I believe part of the reason that opportunity even presented itself had to do with the nice job he did for the county over the past few years.
With the help of staff, elected officials, and taxpayers, the county has improved its financial condition by cutting expenses and increasing revenue in a way that avoided significant layoffs and any further property tax increases. This progress could not have been made without the willingness of the county board to hire a professional administrator who could honestly assess the situation, make recommendations, and implement policies in a non-partisan fashion.
It is important that we replace Dave with another highly-qualified professional administrator through a national search process conducted by a professional search firm. The relatively small cost of this process should not only continue to pay for itself, but keep the county on the path of reform, which is very important in today’s competitive environment.
Please join me in thanking your county board members for their efforts to date while encouraging them to continue their work by hiring a professional search firm to find the most qualified professional administrator possible.
