Republicans in Congress are trying to push through a tax bill that would harm families in our community. To pay for the $1.5 trillion in tax cuts they are offering to millionaires and billionaires, as well as wealthy corporations, President Trump and allies would not just raise taxes on low and middle-income Americans and increase our deficit, but they will also cut vital benefits such as Medicare and Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs, (SNAP) and Women, Infants, Children (WIC), and Head Start education to pay for it.

Republicans are working in a partisan way behind closed doors to create this budget. For a party that claims to dislike huge deficits, this Republican tax plan would blow at least a $1.5 trillion hole in the deficit.

We need our elected officials to represent us, the working people of this state. True tax reform would create policies that boost working families, not Wall Street.

The 1 percent does not need, nor deserve a tax break. Not one penny should go to the 1 percent at the expense of the well-being of families and our economy.

This plan would likely allow Republicans to follow the same “starve the beast” playbook where they pass huge tax breaks claiming they’ll pay for themselves, and then use the resulting huge deficits to justify deep cuts to health care, nutrition, and education programs vital to working families.

Call your member of Congress today. Congress is supposed to represent you, not just the wealthy, and definitely not corporations.
