THE HIDDEN WORKS OF JAY 'DING' DARLING

9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Herbert Hoover Presidential Museum, 210 Parkside Drive, West Branch, Iowa

Exhibit features work by the Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist, famous for his political and conservation cartoons. Museum hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission: $6 adults (16-61 years), $3 senior citizens (62 years and older), free for children younger than 16 years and members of the Hoover Presidential Library Association.

TROPICAL SANDBOX

10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Quad-City Botanical Center, 2525 4th Ave., Rock Island

Two tons of sand in the middle of the indoor Sun Garden. Children may bring toys or borrow from the center. Admission: $6 adults, $5 senior citizens, $4 youth 6-15 years, $2 children 2-5 years, free for children younger than 2 years/members. Contact: 309-794-0991

HOMELESS OPEN MIC PROJECT

1-2:30 p.m., The Center, 1411 Brady St., Davenport

The theme of homelessness will be featured, but other themes and topics may be presented in song, poetry or story form. All performers are welcome. Contact: 309-798-3776

SLAVERY IN AFRICA AND THE AMERICAS

6-8 p.m., River Valley District Library, 214 S. Main St., Port Byron

The River Valley 150th Anniversary Civil War Roundtable will discuss the history of slavery in Africa, the spread to the Americas and how changing views on slavery in America and Europe led to the Civil War. Free. Contact: 309-523-2046
