The Midwest League's leading hitter earned a promotion Tuesday. Quad-Cities catcher Charlie Cutler was promoted by the Cardinals to high-A Palm Beach. The 22-year-old San Francisco native hit a league-leading .351 in 66 games with the River Bandits and was second on the club with 44 RBIs.
The 14th-round pick in the 2008 draft from California also ranked fourth in the league with a .410 on-base percentage and was the River Bandits' lone representative at the 2009 Midwest League All-Star Game.
Jack Cawley, a 34th-round pick of St. Louis in 2008 from Pace University where he was a college teammate of former River Bandits first baseman Matt Arburr, will replace Cutler on the roster.
Cawley hit .330 at short-season Johnson City in 2008 and was off to a .300 start through nine games at short-season Batavia this year before being promoted.
