CEDAR RAPIDS 8, QUAD-CITIES 3

BANDIT BLUNDERS: Over the first four innings, the River Bandits committed three errors and one balk while walking two men and hitting two others as the Kernels took control. The top two batters in their order, Tyson Auer and Alexi Amarista, scored four runs during those first four frames, reaching base in eight of 10 plate appearances on the night.

NEWCOMER DELIVERS: Newcomer Jack Cawley gave the River Bandits a thrill in his debut. Called up earlier in the day to take the roster spot of the league's leading hitter, recently promoted Charlie Cutler, the newest member of the River Bandits singled in his first Midwest League at-bat and went 2-for-3. That included a run-scoring double in the seventh, as the 34th-round pick in the 2008 draft brought Quad-Cities to within 8-3.

BANDITS HATE CEDAR RAPIDS: Quad-Cities fell to 2-13 at Veterans Memorial Stadium over the past two seasons. Cedar Rapids surged to their eighth consecutive win.

WILL TO WIN: Over two starts against Quad-Cities this year, Kernels starting pitcher Will Smith is 2-0 with a 2.40 ERA in 15 innings.

UP NEXT: The River Bandits return home to face Lansing today at 7 p.m.
