CLINTON — Ricky Eusebio's two-out single in the bottom of the 11th inning drove in the game-winning run and sent the Clinton LumberKings to the Midwest League Championship Series with a 1-0 win over Cedar Rapids on Monday night in Game 3 of the Western Division Championship Series.
The LumberKings won the best-of-three series 2-1 over the Kernels.
With two outs and runners on first and second, Eusebio singled on a line to right field off Cedar Rapids reliever Anthony McIver (0-1) to drive in Logan Taylor, who started the inning with a single and who went to second on Rafael Fernandez's single.
The teams combined for 12 hits, with Clinton collecting eight of them off Kernels pitching. The teams also combined to leave 19 runners on bases, with the LumberKings going 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position.
Nick Neidert started for Clinton and got a no-decision despite pitching seven scoreless frames, scattering three hits and striking out nine. Three Clinton relievers combined to limit the Kernels to one hit over the final four innings, though the Kernels did load the bases in the ninth before Matt Walker got a fly out to center to end the threat.
Ronald Dominguez (1-0) recorded one out in the 11th to get the win.
The LumberKings await the Eastern Division winner in the MWL best-of-five championship series. They'll host either Great Lakes or West Michigan — who are tied 1-1 with the deciding Game 3 on Tuesday — in the first two games Wednesday and Thursday starting at 6:30 p.m.
