CLINTON — Kevin Gadea struck out 11 and gave up just one unearned run over six innings and Chris Mariscal drove in three runs to help Clinton beat Cedar Rapids 6-1 on Sunday in Game 2 to even their Western Division Championship Series at one game apiece.
Gadea (1-0) scattered four hits and walked one in his six strong frames on the mound. Cedar Rapids, 9-3 winners in Game 1 on Saturday, scored its only run in the bottom of the fourth on a passed ball.
Rayder Ascanio gave Clinton the early lead on a RBI double in the third inning against Kernels starter Sam Gibbons (0-1). Ascanio would later come around to score on Luis Liberato's single to left field later in the inning to give the LumberKings a 2-0 lead.
Clinton put the game away in the fourth after denting the plate four times. Mariscal, who had two hits from the leadoff spot for Clinton, cleared the bases with a three-run double to make it 6-1.
Three LumberKings relievers shut the door the final three innings to force the series-deciding third game on Monday night at Ashford University Field in Clinton.
