GENEVA, Ill. — Cody Reed pitched a complete-game three-hitter and Mark Karaviotis doubled in the only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning as Kane County defeated Quad-Cities 1-0 Thursday night.
Reed threw 108 pitches in going all the way for his third win of the season. All three hits that he allowed were singles. He also struck out nine batters and walked just one.
The River Bandits (19-19) also got a strong pitching effort from Forrest Whitley, who gave up just one hit in five innings of work.
The Cougars finally broke through against reliever Carlos Sanabria in the seventh when Marcus Wilson opened the inning with a triple. Karavotis followed with a double to right.
Yordan Alvarez had the first hit of the game, extending his hitting streak to three games in his four contests in the Midwest League. Marcos Almonte and Rodrigo Ayarza had the other two Quad Cities hits.
Burlington 8, Clinton 5: Burlington broke loose for five runs in the first inning and continued on from there to defeat the LumberKings.
The Bees collected six hits in the opening inning, including an RBI triple by Brennon Lun, an RBU double by Brennan Morgan, and RBI singles by John Schuknecht and a two-run double by Sam McDonnell.
Clinton starter Danny Garcia (2-4) ended up allowing eight earned runs and 11 hits before departing in the fourth inning.
The LumberKings battled back with the help of a two-run home run by Luis Liberato in the ninth inning.
