STORYLINES

• Iowa defeated William Jewell College 105-81 in an exhibition game last week after trailing by a 46-45 score at halftime. Jordan Bohannon led the Hawkeyes with 19 points with Luka Garza adding 17 and Tyler Cook and Jack Nunge 16 apiece. Garza and Nunge, both freshmen, each grabbed nine rebounds.

• Belmont Abbey, an NCAA Division II school in Belmont, North Carolina, is coached by Billy Taylor, who served as Iowa’s director of basketball operations from 2013-16. Taylor played at Notre Dame when Iowa coach Fran McCaffery served as an assistant coach there and later was McCaffery’s assistant at UNC-Greensboro. He also has served as the head coach at Lehigh and Ball State.

• The Crusaders return three starters from a 14-15 team, including 6-5 senior Deion Lane, who averaged 16.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Jacob Wilson led the team in minutes played while averaging 12.0 points per game, and Ben Ferguson made 87 3-point field goals.
