COLUMBIA, Mo. — The Iowa State men’s basketball team dropped its season opener 74-59 to Missouri on Friday.

The Cyclones were overmatched physically from the outset against the Tigers, even as arguably the country’s top player, Michael Porter Jr., played just two minutes before sitting with an injury.

Youth and inexperience were on display as well.

The Cyclones shot 39 percent as a team in the loss, and were out-rebounded 38 to 27 on the night.

Nick Weiler-Babb had 14 points to lead the Cyclones. Freshman Lindell Wigginton scored 10 points. Zoran Talley Jr. had 10 off the bench.

The Tigers shot 53 percent from the field, led by Kevin Puryear, who had 17 points, and Jordan Barnett, who had 15 points.

The Cyclones return to Hilton Coliseum to host Milwaukee on Monday at 7 p.m.
