Jake Meeske scored a career-high 30 points Friday, but it took a lay-in by John Kerr with two seconds remaining in overtime Friday for St. Ambrose to edge Clarke, 97-95, at the Clarke Tipoff Classic.
Meeske, a sophomore from United Township, collected 25 of his points in regulation and hit 10-of-18 shots in the game but couldn't get a shot to drop at the end the of the second half.
Clarke overcame a four-point deficit in the final minute, forcing overtime when a basket by Ernest Bolden tied the game at 86-86 with :28 left.
Warren Allen finished with 14 points, Kerr added 12 and Greg Wagner totaled 11 for the Fighting Bees (2-0). Harris Takes scored 30 to lead Clarke in its season-opening loss.
St. Ambrose plays ninth-ranked Indiana East in a 4 p.m. game today at Dubuque.
