Rose Ripslinger's freshman season on the Iowa women's soccer team has ended before it began.

The four-time Iowa Gatorade prep soccer player of the year from Davenport Assumption tore her anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus during a preseason intrasquad scrimmage Monday night in Muscatine.

An MRI on Tuesday confirmed the injury for Ripslinger, who scored 118 goals and had 54 assists during her prep career and led the Knights to four straight Class 1A state championships. She is expected to undergo surgery Friday.

The injury occurred shortly after Ripslinger had scored a goal during the second half of the scrimmage which concluded four days of preseason workouts for the Hawkeyes at the Muscatine Soccer Complex.
