Kreiter 2nd, Jones 3rd at D-III meet: North Scott grad Justin Kreiter of Luther College finished second place at 184 pounds Saturday at the NCAA Division III Championships in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
Kreiter, who beat top-seed Owen Webster of Augsburg 5-3 in his semifinal bout earlier Saturday, was pinned in the championship match in 4 minutes, 3 seconds by No. 3 seed Jordan Newman of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Kreiter, a senior who was seeded fifth, finished fourth at the NCAA Championships a year ago.
Augustana's Adarios Jones finished third at 285 pounds and Christos Giatras placed seventh at 184 to give the Vikings multiple all-Americans for the first time since 2001.
After falling in Friday's quarterfinals, Jones was dominant in four wins Saturday to finish his first season at Augustana at 39-4. The sophomore and former Moline state champion defeated second-ranked Lance Evans of Wartburg 9-1 to claim third place, which is the best finish for an Augustana wrestler since Darren Linton finished third at 165 pounds in 1999.
Giatras (30-8) beat Alma's Trent Hullett 10-5 before falling 7-5 to Bryan Levsen of Wartburg on Saturday. The junior then won by medical forfeit to claim seventh place.
