The St. Ambrose men's cross country team used a 1-2 finish to claim the Midwest Collegiate Conference title Saturday and secure a spot at the NAIA cross country national championships in Fort Vancouver, Wash., on Nov. 21.
John Darmody took first, finishing in 25 minutes, 50 seconds, while teammate Kevin Randle was second in 26:08. Darmody's time set a course record and was the fourth fastest time in school history.
The Bees placed their top five runners in the top 10.
For the women, St. Ambrose's Brooke Ashcraft and Lauren Cleary claimed their second straight trip to nationals.
Ashcraft (19:51) finished third, while Cleary (20:25) took the fifth and final qualifying spot. The Queen Bees finished third in the eight-team league field.
