DES MOINES, Iowa - St. Ambrose defeated top-seeded Grand View 2-1 on Thursday night in the championship match of the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament to earn an automatic bert to the NAIA championships.

Erin Dierickx got the second-seeded Queen Bees (13-6) started early with a goal just 3 minutes, 56 seconds into the contest. Molly Rockrohr added a goal at the 56:19 mark to give the Bees a 2-0 lead on the way to the victory.

Pairings for the national tournament will be released Sunday.

Mount Mercy rallies past Ashford men

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Mount Mercy scored four goals over the final 15 minutes, erasing a 3-0 deficit and stunning Ashford 4-3 in Thursday's championship game of the Midwest Collegiate Conference men's soccer tournament.

Ranked 22nd nationally, Ashford (14-5-1) will learn Sunday if it receives an at-large postseason berth.

Boothby, three Hawkeyes honored

Northern Iowa senior Ben Boothy of Clinton, Iowa, and three members of the Iowa football team were among players chosen to the Capital One NCAA Division I academic all-District 6 football team announced Thursday.

Boothby, a defensive lineman who maintains a 3.89 grade-point average in physical education and kinesiology, was joined on the team by UNI teammate Jarred Herring, a senior receiver.

Hawkeyes senior linebacker Tyler Nielsen and two juniors, defensive lineman Steve Bigach and quarterback James Vandenberg, were also named to the team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
