Tommy Bell, the director of athletics at IPFW since 2007, will be introduced this afternoon as the new athletics director at Western Illinois University.

Bell was selected from among a group of three finalists to replace Tim Van Alstine, who resigned from the position in May.

The Virginia Tech graduate launched a program to improve the IPFW program’s marketing and profitability shortly after his arrival and worked to develop fully-funded scholarships for student-athletes and oversaw facilities improvements during his tenure.

Prior to arriving at IPFW, which like Western Illinois competes in the Summit League, worked in athletics development at Southern Illinois. He previously worked in development in Northern Illinois as the head athletics trainer at Radford.
