After getting commitments from five defensive players, the Iowa football program finally landed an offensive recruit over the weekend.
Austin Vier, a 6-foot-7 quarterback from Huxley Ballard High School near Des Moines, told coach Kirk Ferentz and his staff that he will sign with the Hawkeyes next year.
The 220-pound Vier is expected to try to play quarterback at Iowa but could end up being moved to tight end. He has run the 40-yard dash in 4.65 seconds. According to Huxley Ballard coach Al Christian, Vier passed for about 700 yards and seven touchdowns last season.
Vier did not have any other scholarship offers, but had attracted recruiting interest from Iowa State, Purdue, Minnesota, Nebraska and Kansas State.
He is the sixth player to commit to the Hawkeyes, joining defensive end Louis Trinca-Pasat of Chicago; defensive tackle Anthony Ferguson of Baltimore; and linebackers James Morris of Solon, Iowa, Jim Poggi of Baltimore and Austin Gray of Warren, Mich.
