Iowa's Brandon Snyder makes the hit on Wisconsin's Dare Ogunbowale, Saturday, October 22, 2016, during first half action at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowa was without two projected starters Friday night at its public practice at Valley Stadium.

Free safety Brandon Snyder suffered a torn ACL in practice Thursday and will undergo surgery next week and starting receiver Jerminic Smith is being withheld from team activities currently for failing to meet team academic standards.

Injuries also kept Nathan Bazata and Wade Barrington from participating in the workout at Valley Stadium.

Davenport Assumption alum Jake Gervase is listed behind Snyder on the depth chart.
